Bi-week | Planned Parenthood Video

Planned Parenthood Celebrates #BiWeek by asking real people to talk about what it means to them to be bisexual. Transcript: Tell us how you identify and what that means to you Alexandra: I’m bisexual and I’m queer Eliel: I identify as bisexual Felicia: A queer woman of color Brittany: Bisexual and queer Johnny: Openly bisexual Latino man Alexandra: and that means that I’m attracted to genders that are like my own and genders that are not like my own. All genders may apply. Felicia: I’ve only dated guys but I’ve definitely been attracted to women. I would never limit myself just to one gender. Johnny: I look at the person. I don’t really concentrate on gender. Alexandra: Most people that I encounter do not believe bisexuality is real. Eliel: It’s more common for people I feel to believe that it’s a phase Brittany: That it’s just a pit stop on the way to being gay or being straight. Alexandra: It is hard when people don’t understand that bisexuality is a real lived identity. Eliel: Finding community has always been the biggest struggle for me. Alexandra: It makes accessing resources a lot harder. Brittany: It feels like my heart pounding before I disclose my orientation to a doctor. Johnny: For me I’ve been very fortunate that people have respected me as a person ever since I was young that it was very easy for me to come out Felicia: I believe it’s important to celebrate bisexuality because no one should feel alone. Brittany: Like all marginalized identities we have to celebrate ourselves. Eliel: It’s important for us to affirm bisexual people where they are and dispel those misnomers. Johnny: It’s always nice to hear from someone, “your story helps me to figure out my own journey” Alexandra: The more people understand how inclusive and diverse and complex the safer it is and the happier we all are.
